CPP's NCAA Tournament 1st Round in Seattle

NCAA D-II Tournament Bracket

POMONA, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team has earned its second-consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearance and the 2016 Broncos will take on Sonoma State on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Seattle. The event features a 38-team field and single-elimination format.

At 12-5-2, CPP enters the regional as the No. 5 seed in the West. The Broncos' opponent on Thursday - California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Sonoma State - holds a 10-4-5 overall mark as the No. 4 seed.

Last year, CPP entered the West Regional as the No. 1 seed and earned a first-round bye as the hosts of the opening rounds. This year, the Broncos will travel to Washington State as top-seeded Simon Fraser (14-1-2) is hosting its half of the bracket at Seattle Pacific's Interbay Stadium.

The other half of the West Region bracket includes No. 2 seed UC San Diego receiving a bye and hosting the first-round match between third-seeded Dixie State and sixth-seeded Western Washington.

The winner of Thursday's matchup between the Broncos and Seawolves will advance to the second round on Saturday against Simon Fraser.

CPP has been away from competition since Nov. 1 when the Broncos lost to Cal State LA in the opening round of the CCAA Tournament. This Thursday's game with Sonoma will be CPP's first neutral-site contest of 2016 as the Broncos went 7-3-2 at home and 5-2 on the road.
