CPP Names Reeves Acting Head Coach for Men's Soccer

POMONA, Calif. – Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson announced Thursday that Adam Reeves, current Associate Head Coach, has been named acting head coach for the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer program.

While on staff during the 2015 season, Reeves helped the Broncos earn a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament Championship, the program's first ever NCAA West Region Tournament Title and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship game.

"I want to thank Brian Swanson, Stephanie Duke, and the entire CPP Administration for the opportunity to lead the CPP men's soccer program," said Reeves.  "I share their passion for the program and excitement for the future of CPP soccer.  Yossi has been a great partner and the accomplishments he has achieved at CPP will undoubtedly continue in the next step of his journey.  I thank him for the opportunity to work together."

Ranked as high as third in the region during the 2016 campaign, the Broncos went 13-6-3 overall, and finished in third-place in the CCAA regular season standings at 8-3-1. During the postseason, the Broncos advanced to the NCAA West Region Title game after wins against Sonoma State and third-ranked Simon Fraser.

"Adam Reeves has been extremely instrumental in the historic success of Broncos Soccer," said Swanson. "His commitment, experience and drive are key strengths that Coach Reeves brings to our program every day.  We are fortunate that Adam is on our team."

Returning for the Broncos next season are two NCAA Division II All-Americans in Nadeer Ghantous and Sergi Monso.

Ghantous, the 2015 CCAA Freshman of the Year, bolstered a Broncos' defense that allowed the third least amount of goals in the conference in 2016. Monso tied for a CCAA high 12 goals and added four assists. Both players also earned All-West Region honors and were named to the All-CCAA First Team.

Also returning next year are Jason Trejos, Luis Najera Jr. and Kevin Martinez who were all named All-CCAA Honorable Mentions in 2016.

"The program is in a great place, with tremendous older leadership and I cannot wait to lead the entire group," continued Reeves. "In the classroom and on the field, this group of student-athletes are determined to be successful and consistently push each other to reach greater heights.  Finally, I want to thank my entire family and friends for their guidance and support, especially my wife, Catie Reeves."

Prior to joining the Broncos, Reeves served as an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton where in 2014, he helped coach the Titans to a Big West Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Reeves played soccer for the Titans back in 1998 and 1999 and played one season at the University of Washington where the Huskies made it to the second-round of the NCAA Playoffs.

Reeves returned to Cal State Fullerton in 2003 and earned his bachelor's in Kinesiology.
