BRADENTON, Fla. – In their final meet of the year, the Cal Poly Pomona track & field teams are set for the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Tampa and IMG Academy, beginning Thursday, May 25.
Representing the Broncos are distance runners
Calene Morris,
Mark Huizar and
Ruben Dominguez along with javelin thrower
Damani Brown.
Morris enters the championship meet competing in the 5,000-meter run with the 18
th fastest time in Division II at 16:45.89. She posted her best time of the year at the CCAA Championship meet, claiming second-place while ranking second on CPP's All-Time list in the event.
For Huizar, this marks his second consecutive trip to the national stage as he competes in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. Holding the ninth fastest times in both events, Huizar ran the 5K in 14:03.96, setting a new school record during the Bryan Clay Invite, and finished the 10K in 29:35.65 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
Dominguez will also compete in the 5K, finishing just behind Huizar at the Bryan Clay Invite with a time of 14:04.35, ranking 10
th in Division II.
The lone representative in the field events, Brown will compete in the javelin toss, entering the weekend with the 15
th farthest mark in the country. Brown threw a mark of 64.67-meters at the Point Loma Invite, moving into second-place on CPP's All-Time list.
The men's 10K race is set to begin at 9:35 p.m. on Thursday while the remaining events will take place on the final day, Saturday, May 25, with javelin set for 2:25 p.m. and the women's 5K at 8:05 p.m. followed by the men's race.
