2018 CCAA ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
SAN RAMON, Calif. -- A program-record five Cal Poly Pomona volleyball players were named to the 2018 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Volleyball All-Conference Team, and head coach
Rosie Wegrich was selected as the CCAA Volleyball Coach of the Year, highlighting Wednesday's release of the conference's annual postseason awards. In addition to the All-CCAA Team announcements, senior
Alex Bollier was voted the CCAA Libero of the Year and
Kira Zimmerman earned CCAA Freshman of the Year honors.
Capturing All-CCAA First Team honors are senior outside hitter
Andrea Bosnic, senior middle blocker
Kristen Hamlin and freshman setter
Kira Zimmerman, while senior libero
Alex Bollier grabbed an All-CCAA Second Team award and senior opposite side hitter
Desi Martin earned an All-CCAA Honorable Mention nod.
Wegrich, who is coaching her final season of collegiate volleyball after announcing her retirement in September, is enjoying one of her best seasons in her 44-year career on the sidelines, leading the nationally-ranked Broncos to a 21-4 overall record in 2018, matching the most wins for CPP since 2007. It is just the eighth time in her 27 seasons at Cal Poly Pomona that her team has posted a 20-win season and she is on pace to take the Broncos back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years. This is her second-career CCAA Coach of the Year honor; Wegrich last earned the award when her 2005 squad went 24-3 overall and 18-2 in the CCAA, sharing the conference title with Cal State L.A. In 44 seasons, Wegrich has built a 777-590-10 coaching record, including a 448-331 mark in 27 seasons at Cal Poly Pomona.
Bollier, from La Habra, Calif., was the top libero in the CCAA in her final intercollegiate season, leading the conference with 5.26 digs per set and 442 total digs, both career-highs. This is her first All-CCAA and first Libero of the Year honor. Bollier is also the first player from Cal Poly Pomona to be named the CCAA's top libero since the award's inception in 2014.
Zimmerman, a native of Redondo Beach, Calif., is the second Bronco to be named the CCAA's Freshman of the Year since that award began back in 2001; teammate Kristen Hansen is the only other CPP player to earn the award, she did so back in 2015. This season, Zimmerman set a high-powered offense that ranked second in the CCAA in kills per set (14.39) and hitting percentage (.257), both ranked in the Top 16 in the nation. She handed out assists at a rate of 11.11 per set, which is the second-highest in the conference, and ranked 22nd in Division II.
Bosnic, hailing from Woodland Hills, Calif., has enjoyed an outstanding senior campaign in the Green and Gold to take home her second-career All-CCAA award, and her first All-CCAA First Team honor. She leads the Broncos and is fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.52) and total kills (296), while posting the sixth-best points per set output in the CCAA at 3.99.
Hamlin, from Redondo Beach, Calif., also secures her first All-CCAA First Team nod this season; she grabbed Second Team honors, in addition to the aforementioned Freshman of the Year award four years ago. She boasts the third-best blocks per set average in the CCAA at 1.07, the fourth-best hitting percentage at .374, the fifth-best points per set ratio at 4.19, and the seventh-best kills per set output at 3.42. She is a two-time CCAA Player of the Week this season, earning the weekly recognition back on Sept. 18, and again on Oct. 16.
Martin, a native of San Diego, Calif., earns her first-career All-CCAA accolade as she is fourth on the team in total kills (156) and points (186.5) and is second in blocks with 54.
As a team, Cal Poly Pomona sports the highest digs per set average in the CCAA (17.46), and is second in assists per set (13.26), hitting percentage (.257), kills per set (14.39), opponent hitting percentage (.153) and is third in total digs (1,484).
The five All-CCAA awards this season matches the 1994 squad (which was Wegrich's third season at CPP) that also placed five on the All-CCAA Team (one First Team, one Second Team, and three Honorable Mentions).
Cal Poly Pomona will enter postseason play Thursday as the No. 2 seed from the CCAA South Division when it faces the No. 3 seed from the CCAA North Division Stanislaus State in the CCAA Championship Tournament quarterfinals. First serve is set for 12:00 pm in Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock. For more details regarding the CCAA Championship Tournament hosted by Stanislaus State in Turlock, click

The Broncos were also No. 4 in last week's NCAA Division II West Regional rankings, which are scheduled to be updated later on Wednesday
here. Should CPP remain in the Top 8 when the NCAA unveils the 64-team tournament field Sunday at 7:00 pm on NCAA.com, the Broncos will have qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008. The regional tournament will then begin next Thursday (Nov. 15) at the site of the No. 1 seed.
