Adam Reeves Named Head Coach for Men's Soccer

POMONA – After a search, Cal Poly Pomona's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson announced the hiring of Adam Reeves as the next head coach for the men's soccer program.

"My family and I are thrilled to be able to continue to lead this special program at such a prestigious University," said Reeves. "We have had such a wonderful experience over the past two and a half years, both on and off the field. The campus community, staff, colleagues and players have been so welcoming that this was an easy decision for us."

Reeves has spent the last three years at Cal Poly Pomona, most recently as the acting head coach for the 2017 season where he led the Broncos to an overall record of 17-6-1, an NCAA West Region Title and a semifinal appearance in the National Tournament. In addition, Reeves' staff was named the United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year. Under their direction, Sergi Monso and Nadeer Ghantous where named D2CCA All-Americans and USC All-West Region First-Team selections along with Luis Najera Jr. and Jimmie Villalobos.

Along with success on the field, his teams have performed well in the classroom, earning two NCAA Division II Academic All-Americans in Monso and Ghantous while five players were named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Fall All-Academic list.

"We are fortunate that Adam Reeves has accepted our offer to become the men's soccer head coach at Cal Poly Pomona," said Swanson. "Over the past three seasons, Coach Reeves' commitment to our program has been instrumental in moving Broncos Soccer to unprecedented success in the classroom and on the field of play.  Our student-athletes and department are truly appreciative of his dedication and focused approach to continually moving our entire program forward."

In his first two seasons at Cal Poly Pomona, Reeves served as the top assistant, advancing the program to new heights as he accumulated an overall record of 30-9-6. In 2015, the Broncos earned their first ever NCAA tournament win, advancing to the NCAA Championship game as the No. 1 seed in the West Region.

"Adam is committed to the student-athlete experience and has been integral to our academic and athletic success over the last three years," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Stephanie Duke. "Adam understands Cal Poly Pomona and is a great fit to continue to lead the Broncos. We are excited for the future of Cal Poly Pomona Men's Soccer."

A veteran to collegiate coaching, Reeves previously worked at Cal State Fullerton where in 2014, the former Cal State Fullerton student-athlete helped coach the Titans to a Big West Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Reeves played soccer for the Titans back in 1998 and 1999 before transferring to the University of Washington to complete his soccer eligibility. In his season at left back for the Huskies, the team made it to the second-round of the NCAA Playoffs. At the conclusion of his playing career, he returned to Fullerton where he earned his bachelor's in kinesiology in 2003.

"I would like to thank President Soraya Coley, Vice-President of Student Affairs Dr. Lea Jarnigan, Athletic Director Brian Swanson, and Senior Associate Athletic Director Stephanie Duke for their trust and commitment to me. I am excited to build upon the academic and athletic excellence CPP has established over the past five years."
