CLAREMONT, Calif. - With a trio of first-place throwing performances Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team put together a stellar effort in the season opener at Pomona Pitzer.
Senior
Tiffany Gray took first in the shotput (42-6) while fellow fourth-year
Carissa English placed first in the hammer throw (156-11). Junior transfer
Nina Pritchett turned in a tremendous debut for the Broncos, proving to be the top discus thrower at the meet (138-4). Continuing the trend of success in throwing,
Tiffany Tate placed second in the javelin (116-8).
In the distance event of a one-mile distance, senior
Regina Lopez crossed the line in 5:08.80 to place fifth. Her success didn't stop there as she took third in the 3,000-meter run with a 10:02.90 mark.Â
Another fourth-year student-athlete,
Erin Zwinger, ended up at No. 5 in the high jump after a top mark of 5-1 on Saturday. Another fifth-place showing came from
Makayla Jacoub, who vaulted to a height of 10-5.25. Also on Saturday,
Ngozi Agwuenu took fourth in the triple jump.
The Broncos will return to action Saturday, Feb. 28 for the Pomona Preview Meet at Mt. SAC with CPP serving as the host of that meet.
