SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - With sophomore
Kendahl Gaines leading the charge, the Cal Poly Pomona women's track and field team collected plenty of top marks Saturday at the Cal Poly SLO Invite.
Gaines, an Oxnard native, placed first overall in the 400-meter dash, racing to a time of 57.37. Gaines also starred in the long jump, recording a distance of 18-8.75. That came close to matching her personal best of 18-10, which she registered last season.

Lizette Huerta ran well in the 1,500-meter run, placing second with a time of 4:36.03.
Ashli Baddorf followed in third at 4:49.97. Another third-place showing came in the 100-meter dash when
Araya Dixon raced to a time of 12.17.

CPP put together a strong showing in the hammer throw event, as
Carissa English placed first at 152-3 and
Tiffany Gray followed in second at 141-5. Also in that event,
Kelsey Parrish placed fourth.

The throwers continued their success in the shot put as three Broncos placed within the top four spots once again. Gray took first at 46-5.5 while
Tiffany Tate took third and
Nina Pritchett followed in fourth. Gray continued her busy day with a second-place showing in the discus event.

Another first-place performance came in the javelin event, when Tate tossed a mark of 129-5.

Makayla Jacoub matched her season best in the pole vault, posting a height of 11-1.75 to finish second overall Saturday.

The Broncos will return to action Saturday, April 4 with the California Collegiate Invitational hosted by UC San Diego in La Jolla.
