Just one of the hits that the home team got was an extra base hit. Three earned runs crossed the plate in the showing and in the top of the fifth, McWilliams was relieved by
Ryan Alsworth and soon afterwards,
Erik Trask. Both of the relievers came in just for a single batter.
Â
Leading off the scoring in the game prior to the Otters' first run was
Caleb Romo, he scored after a knock from
Brennen Salgado proved too hot for the CSUMB defense to handle. Romo had reached base safely after sending a single up the middle to lead things off in the top of the second.
Â
Closing out the final four innings and earning the win in the game was
Michael Koval, who allowed a mere three hits, securing four strikeouts and zero walks in the showing.
Â
Koval was given the offensive support that CPP needed in the eighth inning. Cooksey led things off for the Green and Gold with a single down the left field line. He was moved to second after
Michael Zidek drew a walk. Both runners moved over as Romo added a single through the left side.
Matt Munoz came up with the bases loaded and sent a grounder at the first baseman, the Otter attempted to double up the Broncos but committed a throwing error that allowed Zidek and Cooksey to score, bringing the score to 4-3 in CSUMB's favor.
Ryan Webberley grounded out to third, but allowed both the Bronco runners to advance into scoring position.
Â
A new pitcher was brought in and Salgado added another run to the scoreboard after a single to the third baseman allowed Romo to score.
Jonathon Reynoso came to the plate and scored Munoz after a single was sent through the right side.
Â
Kyle Garlick sent a long fly ball into the outfield that allowed then pinch runner
Jacob Bernardy to score. Then with two CPP runners on, Cooksey came to the plate for the second time in the inning and sent the long ball over the left-center field fence. Cooksey's homerun gave the Broncos their final runs in the game, and the score reached the final 9-4 result.
