LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos' pair of
Kyle Goodenough and
Kyle Lawson competed for the track and field team in the first day of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships hosted by Cal State Los Angeles.
Jordon Morris,
Josiah Pekary, and Lawson also threw in the javelin.Â
The duo completed the first day and the first five events in the decathlon. WIth five events still remaining, Goodenough currently holds second place with 3,007 points, and Lawson is sixth with 2,561 points.Â
Event No. 1 was the 100-meter dash. Lawson finished fourth with a time of 11.89 and Goodenough finished a split second behind him at 11.90.Â
The second competition of the event was the long jump. Goodenough jumped 5.94 meters and locked in second place. Lawson placed fifth with a jump of 5.42 meters.
Shot put came third with Goodenough and Lawson coming in second and fourth, respectively. Goodenough reached a distance of 10.37 meters. The throw of Lawson was 9.52 meters.Â
The pair again placed second and fourth respectively in the high jump as Goodenough cleared 1.79 meters and Lawson cleared a 1.64 meter bar.Â
Event No. 5 for them and the final of the decathlon competition for the day was the 400 meter dash in which Goodenough placed third with a time of 54.12 and Lawson secured seventh with a time of 58.37.Â
In the javelin, Morris led the Broncos with a seventh-place finish and a distance of 54.63 meters. Pekary came a few spots behind him as he reached 47.29 meters, and Lawson posted a finish at No. 12 with a mark of 45.48 meters.Â
