Broncos Win on Senior Day; Tied For First

POMONA, Calif. – As the final home series of the 2015 season draws to a close, the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos earn a split with Cal State Stanislaus. The resumption of Saturday's rainout resulted in a 3-0 Warrior win, while the series finale saw the Broncos best CSUS 7-0.

The Broncos now hold an overall 33-13 record on the season and a 25-11 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The conference standings now have the Green and Gold tied with UC San Diego at the helm.

The Warriors now hold a 21-25 overall mark in season and a 16-20 record in CCAA play.

GAME ONE: Warriors 3 – Broncos 0

Saturday's second contest ended with a rain delay and the Broncos trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Cody Ponce started for the Broncos and hit a few bumps in the inclement weather. He recorded a loss for the contest after allowing four hits and two runs to score.

Michael Koval came in for the Broncos to pick up on Sunday morning where Ponce left off. He dealt the remaining five innings and allowed just four hits and one run to cross. He struck out a pair of Warriors and threw 85 pitches.

The Broncos' offense was held to a mere five hits with the stellar performance of the CSUS starter, he threw all seven innings and kept CPP scoreless.

Kyle Garlick improved his on-base streak to 27 games as he knocked a single in the third inning. He, Matt Muñoz, Mike Philp, Michael Erb, and Jacob Bernardy comprised the Broncos hitters who registered a hit.

GAME TWO: Broncos 7 – Warriors 0

In the final game at Scolinos Field for the senior class of Broncos' baseball, the offense exploded. With Chris Powell on the bump, CPP backed him up with a six-run second inning. Powell threw 7.1 innings and allowed just six hits while racking up six strikeouts of the Warrior offense. He earned the win and will enter the final regular season series with a 6-2 record.

In the second inning, CPP's first run came off a single from Brennen Salgado, who would play his final game at Scolinos Field phenomenally. His single scored Philp from second. The Green and Gold's next run would be Ryan Webberley after Christian Kelley drew a bases load walk. Then Garlick extended his on-base streak to 27 games with a single to left that scored Salgado. Then to post CPP's final two runs of the inning was a two RBI triple from Nick Cooksey, scoring Garlick and Kelley.

The next few innings remained quiet for both teams, and then in the sixth inning Salgado found his pitch and sent the long ball over the right field fence to record his first homer of the season. With the run, the Broncos took the final 7-0 result.
