Wayne Gross
Gross was named CPP's Athlete of the Year in 1973. He played third base for coach John Scolinos' teams and also punted on CPP's football teams (1970-75).

He finished third in the nation in punting (40.7 yards) in 1972 and was an all-conference and All-Pacific Coast selection as a tight end.

But it would be in baseball where he would make an indelible mark. He was an All-CCAA first-team selection at first base in 1973 where he hit .307 with six home runs and 30 RBI. He finished with a .325 average in 1972.

Following his career at Cal Poly Pomona, Gross went on to play 10 seasons in Major League Baseball. As a rookie with the Oakland Athletics in 1977, he made the American League All-Star team and was a TOPPS Rookie All-Star at third base. He helped lead the A's to a division title in 1981 and after being  traded to the Baltimore Orioles, he completed his career with the A's in 1986.

Gross's third child, Kirk, played baseball at CPP from 2006-07.
